I live very much in the moment, and it’s not a great as everyone makes it out to be. It has just as many problems as being stuck in the past or striving for the future. I find it hard to grasp onto anything because everything is constantly fleeting. I agree that it is a good thing to sit back out of time for awhile, but it’s not a healthy way to live your life.

I think this is interesting and it really shows how society can warp tradition. It makes me wonder if holidays are going to be celebrated in the same way hundreds of years from now.

The Jesus prayer is interesting, especially because it seems like many people have not heard of it. Most of the youth know the Lord’s Prayer, but they don’t really understand the true meaning behind the words they’re saying. The Jesus prayer would give them something to learn that they could comprehend.

I have always found when I am on a mission trip or at a Christian leadership retreat and have nothing besides God to focus on I seek the solitude and silence I often find so hard to find in my everyday life. It has been on those trips when I consciously make the effort to wake up earlier then everyone else and take a walk, hike or climb that takes me even further away from distractions and on those days I have found a peace settles over me as I contemplate the glory of God and the insignificance of my life but the great love He has for me.

I have heard and even been in conversations about what it means to truly pray without ceasing and I have always felt that is the idea of always have active thoughts of God in in our minds. To me the Jesus Prayer and other prayers like it allow us to condition our unruly thoughts to remember God constantly and pray to Him for forgiveness and help.

This semester I took a beginner’s yoga class to fulfill one of my fitness requirements. One of the sayings my instructor would often repeat was, “Wherever you are, there you will be.” As I listened to her explain this statement and thought of it on my own I realized that in order to live life to the fullest we must live each moment to the fullest. Yes we should remember the past and look forward tot he future but we must also be in the present. If our minds are constantly on the past or the future there we will be. If we, however, are in the present then we can put the full force of our lives into the here and now.

It is unbelievable to me how much technology has caused the world to leap forward but in a sense leap back at the same time. Yes we can experience things from half a world away but we have other losses. With the growth of technology we do no longer live in our loves but outside them, we also limit our human capabilities as we strive to reach higher goals. in the past we had to retain information in volumes, numbers were memorized, names were linked with faces and characteristics in our mind, we could recal information in greater detail and length without aid. Now all we have to do is check our phones or computers and we have all the information, but do we have the understanding or the ability to recall anymore?
